A message is being circulated that claims to be from India Post Payments Bank saying, “Dear user your India post payment bank account has been blocked today please update your PAN Card immediately.” The message also shared a link to update the same.

The reality:

The claim is entirely false. PIB Fact Check informed about the same on X (Formerly Twitter). According to the tweet India Post Payments Bank do not send such messages. This means that the alarming notification is a product of misinformation or, more likely, an attempt at a phishing scam.

“Claim: The customer’s India Post Payments bank account will be blocked within 24 hours if their Pan card is not updated.  This claim is #Fake. IndiaPostOffice never sends any such messages. Never share your personal & bank details with anyone,” PIB Fact Check tweeted.

Verifying the information:

In the era of digital transactions and online banking, it is crucial for users to stay vigilant and verify any alarming messages they receive. In this case, a simple check with the official communication channels of India Post Payments Bank can clarify the misinformation.

Protect yourself from scams:

Do not share personal information: Legitimate banks and financial institutions will never ask you to share sensitive information like your PAN Card details or passwords through messages or calls.

Verify with official sources: If you receive any alarming message or communication, verify it with official sources. Check the official social media accounts, websites, or contact the customer support of the concerned institution directly.

Beware of urgency tactics: Scammers often create a sense of urgency to pressurise individuals into sharing information quickly. Be cautious if a message demands immediate action.

Educate yourself: Stay informed about the common types of scams and phishing attempts. Awareness is a powerful tool to protect yourself from falling victim to fraudulent activities.
