The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has inaugurated the 5th Digital Payments Awareness Week (DPAW), an initiative aimed at spreading awareness about the significance of digital transactions and ensuring their safe usage. The event, observed from March 10 to 16, 2025, is part of RBI’s mission ‘Har Payment Digital.’
This year’s theme ‘India Pays Digitally’ reflects the country’s remarkable progress toward a digitally empowered society where digital payments are increasingly becoming a way of life.
During the week, RBI, in collaboration with banks, payment system operators, and other stakeholders, will conduct various awareness activities nationwide. These include multimedia campaigns, on-ground educational programs, and extensive outreach through social media platforms. The initiative seeks to educate users on the benefits and security of digital transactions while encouraging more people to adopt cashless payment methods.
In his inaugural address, RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra praised the growing adoption of digital payments in India but also emphasized that there is still vast potential for further expansion. He urged banks, media, and the payment industry to play an active role in driving awareness and promoting the convenience and security of digital transactions.
As part of the awareness drive, RBI has also launched two exciting competitions for public participation:
- Har Payment Digital Short Video Contest
- Har Payment Digital Comic Strip Contest
These contests encourage creative storytelling to highlight the importance of digital payments while educating users on best practices. The competitions will be open for participation from March 10 to April 13, 2025. Themes for content include India pays digitally, Promoting usage of digital payments, Adopt digital payment, make life easy, and Safety in digital payments.
Attractive prizes will be awarded to the best entries, motivating individuals to contribute their unique perspectives on the digital payments revolution. The first prize winner will be awarded an amount of ₹ 2 Lakh, followed by ₹1 Lakh and ₹50000 to the second and third winners respectively. A consolation prize of ₹25000 (each) will also be given.
