National Startup Day, celebrated on January 16, 2024, is a momentous occasion that celebrates the spirit of entrepreneurship and innovation across the country. This day, observed annually, is a testament to the thriving startup ecosystem, acknowledging the contributions of visionaries, risk-takers, and creative minds who dare to dream big and bring their ideas to life.
Declared by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, National Startup Day symbolizes the vibrancy of India’s startup culture. It is a day to recognize the resilience, determination, and hard work of entrepreneurs who have transformed their innovative concepts into successful ventures. This celebration sheds light on the critical role startups play in driving economic growth, creating jobs, and fostering technological advancements.
Wishing everyone on the occasion and thanking the Prime Minister, Vijay Shekhar Sharma, founder and CEO of Paytm, said that the growth of startups in India is because of PM Modi’s commitment to grow the talent and ecosystem of startups by making himself a champion of startup India.

Meanwhile, Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, and Textiles, Piyush Goyal said that startups are playing a pivotal role in India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation by 2047. While addressing the Startup Awards and State Ranking Awards function in New Delhi on Tuesday, the Minister commended the significant progress made in the startup sector over the last eight years, stating that what was once a novelty has now become an integral part of the national mainstream.
He highlighted the diverse sectors in which startups are making substantial contributions, ranging from MedTech, FinTech, AgroTech to the aviation sector, drones, and simulators. He identified tourism as a sector with untapped potential, encouraging startups to explore innovative ideas around sustainable tourism. He pointed out that Wed-in-India initiative as suggested by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi should also be noted by the potential startups. He added that PM Modi had said at Vibrant Gujarat that Bharat’s priority is New Age Skills, Futuristic Tech, AI and Innovation.
The minister also announced that ‘Startup Maha Kumbh’ is scheduled to be organized in March 2024 and assured continued government support for the startup ecosystem, inviting entrepreneurs to leverage the vast consumer market and work collaboratively to transition from an emerging to a developed startup system.
