Google Invests $300 Million in ChatGPT Rival – Anthropic AI

The legendary entrance of ChatGPT has indeed put the wind up, even for the best tech giants of Silicon Valley. The sudden threat for the companies printing money out their monopoly of unbeatable search engines and out of the world databases. We all know where the finger’s pointing at —  the incumbent search engine, Google. Now, Google has no choice but to jump in the AI race to keep its search engine from being cannibalized. And hence, Google invested $300 billion in Anthropic AI, the company that developed a system called Claude that shares similar attributes with ChatGPT.

What is Anthropic AI?

Anthropic is an AI startup based in America and operates as a public-benefit corporation. It was established by former OpenAI members and focuses on creating general AI systems and language models. The company is dedicated to the responsible usage of AI. Anthropic was established in 2021 by ex-senior members of OpenAI, including siblings Daniela and Dario Amodei, who served as the Vice President of Research at OpenAI. They, among others, left OpenAI due to differences in direction, particularly concerning OpenAI’s collaboration with Microsoft in 2019.

How is — it different from ChatGPT

Anthropic’s Claude, was created using a technique called ‘Constitutional AI’. It provides a principle-based approach and attempts at generating responses that aligns with human intentions. Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, said, “We are partnering with Google Cloud to support the next phase of Anthropic. We are going to deploy our AI systems to a larger set of people. The multi-million dollar deal

The $300 million deal grants Google a 10% stake in the startup. Anthropic, gets access to Google Cloud services to handle giant AI models that they develop, while Google, gets to battle Microsoft-acquired Open AI and claim a place in emerging trends of Generative AI. What a win-win for both Google and Anthropic.
