Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman has begun an official visit to Spain, Portugal, and Brazil from June 30 to July 5, 2025, where she will take part in several high-level meetings and conferences focused on development finance and international cooperation.
During her visit to Seville, Spain, the Finance Minister will address the 4th International Conference on Financing for Development (FFD4) organised by the United Nations. This global conference focuses on how countries can work together to fund sustainable development goals and economic growth.
Sitharaman will also speak at the International Business Forum Leadership Summit on the theme “From FFD4 Outcome to Implementation: Unlocking the Potential of Private Capital for Sustainable Development.” She will also meet senior ministers from Germany, Peru, and New Zealand, and hold talks with the President of the European Investment Bank (EIB).
In Lisbon, Portugal, the Finance Minister is expected to hold a bilateral meeting with the Finance Minister of Portugal. She will also meet with leading investors and members of the Indian diaspora.
The visit will conclude in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where Sitharaman will address the 10th Annual Meeting of the New Development Bank (NDB) as India’s Governor and will also attend the BRICS Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting (FMCBG).
As part of the NDB programme, the Finance Minister will speak at the NDB Flagship Governors Seminar on the topic “Building a Premier Multilateral Development Bank for the Global South.” She will also hold bilateral meetings with her counterparts from Brazil, China, Indonesia, and Russia.
